There can be a disconnect between what the speaker thinks should matter to the audience and what actually matters to the audience/nWhen debating, the goal is persuasion to change the mind of those who do not agree/nDebating is not a conversation, rather it is a contest judged by a third party/nThe winner is the person who does the best job of understanding the perspective of the third party
