The Impact of Omega 3 Index on Life Expectancy
Improving cardiovascular health significantly enhances health span and life span. Research shows individuals with an 8% omega 3 index have a 5-year longer life expectancy compared to those with a 4% omega 3 index. Japan's higher life expectancy compared to the United States correlates with a higher omega 3 index due to a seafood-rich diet. A study by Bill Harris's group revealed a significant impact of omega 3 index and smoking on life expectancy. Non-smokers with an 8% omega 3 index had the longest life spans, while smokers with a low omega 3 index had the lowest. Surprisingly, individuals with high omega 3 index who smoked had similar life expectancies to non-smokers with low omega 3 index, suggesting smoking's impact on life expectancy is akin to having a low omega 3 level.
