Leaders' presence can signal care and connection, but constant presence can make employees feel watched and distracted. Effective leaders engage by immersing in the work like at Disneyland when a leader dressed in costume or worked alongside employees. Leaders should go beyond observation and actively learn and improve processes. One effective practice is auditing the ratio of questions to statements in meetings to ensure engagement and active participation from team members.
