Low glucose can be mimicked in yeast cells with NAD and activating certain genes can make them live longer. Deleting sirtuins genes affects caloric restriction in yeast cells and shows that glucose isn't inherently bad for you. Sirtuins are turned on by fasting and there are other classes of longevity genes like mTOR and AMPK.
