Ten thousand years ago, animals made up 99% of the biomass relative to humans, but today, humans and our livestock account for 98% of the mammalian biomass on the planet. Despite this, the total animal biomass on the planet is 700% greater now than it was ten thousand years ago due to the significant increase in food supply from the agricultural revolution. The revolution involved using technology to convert natural gas into ammonia for fertilizers, which contributed to 60% of the nitrogen in our bodies today. This process significantly boosted the food supply by utilizing fossil carbon and hydrocarbons.
