The influence of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs at universities and the broader impact of wokeism in culture and identity politics are raising serious concerns. Wokeism is rooted in postmodernism, viewing inequality as a reflection of underlying power structures. This theory has evolved into a racial version, suggesting that U.S. systems are white supremacist and perpetuated by those in favor of white power. The softer form of this theory, DEI, emphasizes 'equity' over 'equality,' attributing any inequality to discrimination. It leads to a victim-victimizer narrative, undermines individual responsibility, and challenges the notion of meritocracy, which has historically had positive impacts across various areas of life. This approach of discrimination in the name of correcting discrimination is seen as dangerous and destructive for individuals and societies at large.
