Royal Authority is Central to Governance

Monarchy centered on the active role of the king, who was expected to govern with the interests of his subjects in mind. Despite the necessity for consulting nobles and convening Parliament for law-making and taxation, the essence of power rested with the king's royal authority. Government institutions, such as law courts and the exchequer, were established to support the king's initiatives rather than operate independently. The existence of these institutions was a response to the growing demand for services, yet they relied on the continuous and decisive input from the monarchy to function effectively. Without a decisive royal will to guide them, these bureaucratic structures lacked purpose and efficacy.
