The insight is that for knowledge work, the ingredients are time and attention. While money can always be made, time cannot be created or expanded. Therefore, it is suggested that people be frugal with their time and generous with their money. The concept of a time box calendar is introduced to help individuals allocate their time based on their values and priorities. The analogy of a baker needing specific ingredients to make cupcakes is used to highlight that knowledge work also requires inputs, namely time and attention. These inputs need to be budgeted and planned for in order to effectively accomplish tasks and avoid regret and burnout.
