Maximizing Exercise Efficiency for Weight Loss

Factors such as driving instead of walking to work may reduce the calorie deficit induced by exercise. Individuals with obesity might have improved energy efficiency during exercise, leading to decreased energy expenditure as training progresses. While factors that reduce energy expenditure play a minor role in long-term weight loss, the primary determinant of poor weight loss is excessive energy intake. Nonetheless, even if weight loss is minimal, exercise still offers numerous benefits. Variations in weight loss responses are mainly attributed to differences in energy consumption post-exercise.
