The Role of Muscle Fibres in Distance Running

We use the same muscles for running as we do in the weight room. There are actually three types of muscle fibers: slow twitch, fast twitch, and type two b. Distance runners focus on training type two a fibers, which can be transformed into aerobic fibers. This transformation increases mitochondrial density and is beneficial for long-distance running.
