Artificial lighting was created to extend productivity into the evenings, but it stimulates our bodies to be active when we should be resting and repairing. Candlelight and firelight do not emit stimulating wavelengths, while incandescent lamps emit some blue light for stimulation. People living on the equator have adapted to 12 hours of light and darkness, while in winter, our biological time is to go inwards and restore. Stimulating ourselves artificially in winter asks more of our bodies than is provided for. There is a need to mimic bear hibernation in our lifestyle choices.
