NOTE

The Role of Nerve Cells in the Gut-Brain Connection

The vagus nerve is a complex part of the peripheral nervous system, with neurons located in a cluster near the neck called the nodos ganglion. These neurons send processes called axons to the gut and up to the brain. The vagus nerve also has many branches connecting to important areas of the body. Neurons in the gut sense different nutrients and send signals to the brain, particularly when sugar is sensed, through electrical firing. It may be difficult to understand this anatomy, but imagery and a picture may help.
