NOTE

The Strategic Stalemate of Hannibal and the Fabian Strategy

Rome thwarted Hannibal's potential conquest due to Roman's defensive strategy and their refusal to engage in dishonorable tactics. Despite Hannibal's military victories in Italy, his lack of resources to breach Rome's walls led to a prolonged war of attrition. The Punic Wars became a defining moment for Rome, where millions perished, yet Rome's resilience and patriotism emerged. The Fabian strategy, a gradual guerrilla warfare approach, was adopted to starve out Hannibal, ultimately leading to the Romans realizing they couldn't defeat Hannibal in Italy directly. Rome defeated Hannibal's armies through strategic engagements elsewhere and eventually triumphed under the leadership of Scipio Africanus.
