Depressive Realism: Accuracy vs Optimism

Depressed people can accurately predict the degree of control they have over things, even though they are less optimistic. In a study, depressed individuals correctly recognized when they had no control and showed less illusion of control compared to non-depressed individuals. However, in real-life situations, both depressed and non-depressed people were equally accurate in estimating their circumstances. The difference lies in how non-depressed people actively respond to bad news and take action, while depressed individuals tend to be more passive.
