The University of Chicago has found that facial expressions and body language may not be reliable in communication. However, the phone is considered one of the best communication innovations as it allows us to focus on listening to the words. Email and text messages lack the ability to gauge the impact of our conversations. Slack can also lead to misunderstandings. It is important to pick up the phone and have synchronous conversations. Don't give feedback over slack. Remember the old AT&T commercials and reach out to someone personally. Be humble and helpful, provide immediate feedback, praise publicly and criticize privately, and avoid criticizing someone's personality.
