Understanding Avoidance Behaviors in Relationships
Avoidance behaviors in relationships can stem from avoiding an abandonment wound or intimacy wounds. Anxious individuals may overcompensate by meeting the needs of others and self-abandoning to avoid their abandonment wound. While avoidant individuals avoid intimacy with themselves, pushing others away. Both are forms of avoidance, with anxious individuals more likely to seek help, but both avoiding in different ways, often unconsciously.
