ADHD encompasses inattentive symptoms, which include failure to pay close attention to details, leading to careless mistakes in work. Individuals often struggle with sustaining attention and may not listen when spoken to directly. They have difficulty following through on instructions and often do not complete initiated tasks. Organizing tasks, activities, and materials poses challenges, and they may avoid tasks that require prolonged mental effort, especially if these tasks are not highly appealing. Common issues include misplacing necessary items to accomplish tasks, becoming easily distracted—whether through internal racing thoughts or external environmental factors—and experiencing forgetfulness regarding appointments or responsibilities. These nine inattentive symptoms significantly affect daily functioning and task completion.
Cheryl Chase, Ph.D., helps professionals with ADHD and employers understand how ADHD impacts work life and shares self-management techniques, accommodations, and organizational strategies that will lead to career success.
