NOTE

The Pre-Contemplation, Contemplation, and Preparation Stages of Change

Some individuals find comfort in staying in a bad situation because it feels familiar to them. Therapists aim to understand what prevents individuals from changing and facing the uncertainty that comes with change. Additionally, the concept of freedom and responsibility is explored, as change requires individuals to take responsibility for their own lives. Change should not be rushed as it involves different stages: pre-contemplation (not yet considering change), contemplation (thinking about change but not ready to act), preparation (planning and researching), action (making the change), and maintenance (sustaining the change). Many people falter at the maintenance stage, wrongly assuming that making the change is the end goal.
