NOTE

The evidence behind acceleration methods. It works academically and emotionally.

Students can benefit from various forms of acceleration that allow them to progress at a faster pace academically without necessarily skipping grades. There are over 20 types of acceleration, including single subject acceleration, where a student, such as one in elementary school, can attend a higher grade for specific subjects like math. Other methods include specialized schools with fast-paced curricula and cluster grouping within classrooms that concentrate advanced students with teachers adept in higher-level instruction. Extensive research, including large-scale meta-analyses, consistently demonstrates the effectiveness of acceleration methods. Concerns about social and emotional issues arising from mixed-age classrooms are largely unfounded, as studies indicate occurrence of such problems is rare. Acceleration stands as a viable educational strategy with minimal downsides, and trialing acceleration can offer valuable insights for both students and educators.
