When we're managers, we're also still employees. We default to what our culture tells us which is I'm going to control down but I want freedom up. And if you take that away and instead tell managers, your job is to make teams effective,. They're going to do the right thing. You just coach them. The more carrots you use and the fewer sticks you have, the easier that's going to be.
