Ancestrally, whole animal consumption provided a balanced intake of methionine and glycine through collagenous tissues. Both nose-to-tail carnivore and whole foods vegan diets offer a decent balance between methionine and glycine, but it is harder to reach protein targets on a vegan diet without supplements. Deviating from whole foods vegan diet requires more balance micromanagement. Maintaining a good methionine glycine balance in a vegan diet can help in preventing conditions like osteopenia and osteoporosis, contributing to longevity.
