Developing interventions for self-harming behaviors in teenagers may show short-term effects on intentions to self-harm and self-hate, but often lack long-term effectiveness. Research studies have indicated that interventions may temporarily shift behaviors, but not sustainably reduce actual self-harming behaviors in the long run. Evidence suggests that there is a gap in evidence-based treatments for self-harming behaviors in adolescents.
