The Interference Effect on Strength and Endurance Training

The interference with strength adaptation is partly due to a conflict between signaling pathways at the molecular level within the muscle. Hypertrophy, which is increasing muscle size, seems to be particularly sensitive and becomes more severely bluntened with higher frequencies of endurance training. Given the ratio of strength training and endurance training that you'll ultimately include in your program, it is highly likely that the endurance training will prevent any muscle gains and muscle mass. Similarly, the scientific studies that have investigated the effects of weight training on runners have generally shown very positive benefits to endurance performance. So that's what the chapter says when to scurry combined strength and running, the body's gonna prioritize the endurance side of things
