The Power of Optimism and Pessimism on Health

Attitudes matter in health, but forced false positivity is different from true optimism. Optimism comes from facing reality, believing in a better future, and putting in the work. A meta-analysis of numerous studies found that the absence of pessimism is a stronger predictor of health than the presence of extreme optimism. Thus, it is more crucial to avoid pessimism than to be overly optimistic.
