EP 9 - 'Unblending' from Parts in IFS (Internal Family System Therapy)

Psychotherapy Central

NOTE

Understanding parts and self in Internal Family Systems therapy

Conflicting parts in ourselves can be understood through the different reactions and feelings we have towards people or situations. The 'self' in Internal Family Systems therapy embodies qualities like compassion, courage, and creativity, and it leads to the system's happiness when all parts are connected to it. Being 'self-led' means all parts are settled, safer, and supported. Blending can occur when we identify so strongly with a part that it feels like an integral part of ourselves.
