So we think that there are these reasons to be especially concerned with the welfare of some people and not others, that relate to the particular relationships in which we stand to some people and not to others. And this, i think, is is thought of as a distinctively non consequentialist kind of moral considerations of partiality. And then the idea to be explored is that we might claim that we stand in relations to our nearer descendants that give us reasons to care more about their welfare than our more distant descendants.
