Zone two training, also known as base widening training, involves training at an RPE that allows you to maintain a conversation but with strain. This can be done on a bike indoors, where breathing through the nose is manageable. The goal is to stay in zone two and not progress to zone three. Heart rate typically stays in the high 130s during this type of training.
