NOTE

The 10,000 Hour Rule Revisited

Anders Eriksson's study on violin students revealed that greatness was achieved through both the quantity and quality of practice. Great students put in 10,000 hours of practice, engaging in deliberate practice focusing on refining skills and seeking feedback. They spent fewer hours on leisure but were mindful of how they spent that time, slept more, and took naps. Achieving excellence requires not just 10,000 hours of practice, but also 12,500 hours of deliberate rest and about 30,000 hours of sleep. Successful practice is mentally and physically demanding, with shorter, intensive sessions being more effective than longer ones.
