Understanding Avoidance: The Three Rs

Avoidance is anything that we do or don't do in response to a threat that's designed to decrease anxiety or discomfort, but keeps us stuck long term./nThere are three forms of avoidance: retreat, react, or remain./nRetreating is when we move away from discomfort, such as avoiding skydiving or not reading an email we don't like./nSome people avoid discomfort by reacting, which can include getting angry or lashing out./nAvoidance can also mean remaining stagnant or not taking action towards our goals or desires.
