Germany is shifting its energy landscape by focusing on green hydrogen to replace coal, nuclear power, and Russian gas. The government initially aimed for 5 gigawatts of electrolyzers by 2030, but this target has been doubled to 10 gigawatts following increasing energy security concerns after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Achieving this revised goal would increase Germany's generation capacity by about 20%, providing approximately 3 million tons of hydrogen annually by 2030, which is double the current consumption rate.
