Critical Analysis of Epidemiology and Study Findings
Drawing conclusions from epidemiology is challenging, especially in areas like cancer where randomized control trials are not feasible. While studies on non-nutritive sweeteners show conflicting results on cancer risk, consistent evidence supports the benefits of fiber intake in reducing the risks of heart disease, cancer, and overall mortality. A meta-analysis revealed that for every 10 gram increase in fiber intake, there was a relative 10% decrease in the risks of cardiovascular disease, cancer, and all-cause mortality. However, it is important to understand that relative risk reduction does not imply absolute immunity, and excessive fiber intake does not guarantee eternal life.
