One common trap in conversations about physical activity is the 'yes but' trap, where individuals tend to provide unsolicited advice by saying 'yes but' repeatedly. This can hinder progress and make the other person feel judged. Clinicians sometimes fall into the trap of over-assessing or overestimating a person's readiness to change, leading to rushed planning and advice-giving instead of adopting a person-centred conversational style.
