Intrinsic vs Extrinsic Motivation
Extrinsic motivation is driven by external rewards or forces, such as bonuses or recognition, while intrinsic motivation comes from an internal desire for the activity itself or its inherent value. Extrinsic motivation tends to be short-term and requires a steady supply of external rewards, while intrinsic motivation leads to longer-term commitment and action even when no one is watching. Although external rewards are fine, there needs to be an underlying intrinsic motivation to sustain motivation through challenges and obstacles.
