Understanding Your Brain's Influence on Your Emotions
Your brain sometimes lies to you. Treat your emotions as friendly creatures giving advice rather than truth. Worry and anxiety may come from past hurts, but remember that you survived. The brain tries to protect us by applying past events to similar scenarios, but it can't predict the future. You are not your emotions or your past. Instead of saying 'I'm embarrassing or awkward or cringe,' say 'That situation made me feel anxious, but that's not who I am.' Repeat these affirmations to yourself when needed.
