The Difference Between Values and Principles

Values and principles are different, but interconnected. Values are the intrinsic things we seek, while principles are the decision-making strategies or rules of thumb. Having preset principles makes decision-making easier and helps align our actions with our values. Examples of principles include always trying to help the world and telling the truth unless it conflicts too much with other values. Living by principles can make it easier to live by our values. It's important to leave each encounter better than when we found it, and principles serve as decision-making strategies that make our lives simpler.
