NOTE

Cholesterol Levels vs. Heart Disease Rates

The Pukapukans and Tokalowans have higher LDL and total cholesterol levels, yet both groups have very low rates of heart disease, likely due to their insulin sensitivity from not consuming processed foods. Studies show that despite the difference in cholesterol levels between the two groups, they have low rates of vascular and cardiovascular diseases. The populations are lean and not obese, with Pukapukans having lower cholesterol levels due to their lower coconut consumption.
