The Impact of Drone Warfare on Naval Strategy
Bill asked me and others to prepare questions for each other. My question was about the impact of drone warfare on the Navy and how it changes warfare fundamentally. There's an interesting article suggesting that the next naval war will be fought with naval drones instead of battleships and aircraft carriers. It seems like our military is spending money on the wrong things. I mentioned that there is nowhere to hide on the battlefield anymore due to the lethal nature of drones. Bill mentioned that this was predictable and cited a white paper he wrote in the early 90s about forces having to operate as if they were in visual range of the enemy due to the increased transparency of the battlefield.
