Physiological impact of volume expansion on serum uric acid levels
Volume expansion results in dilution of uric acid leading to hypo-uricemic and hyper-uricoseric states, while volume depletion leads to uric acid concentration and high serum uric acid levels. In certain conditions like CKD, gout, kidney stones, and hypertension, serum uric acid levels can be elevated, but low serum uric acid levels can be indicative of syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH).
