NOTE

Improving Cardio Respiratory Fitness Through High-Intensity Interval Training

High-intensity interval training is a highly effective method to improve VO2 max and cardiorespiratory fitness. Studies have shown that adding high-intensity interval training to moderate-intensity workouts significantly enhances VO2 max. The Norwegian 4x4 protocol, consisting of four minutes of high-intensity exercise followed by three minutes of recovery repeated four times, is particularly effective in improving cardiorespiratory fitness. The 12-minute run test is a reliable way to estimate VO2 max if direct measurement is not accessible. Vigorous intensity exercise creates structural changes in the aging heart, which can counteract age-related cardiovascular decline and reduce the risk of heart disease. Regular high-intensity interval training can be pivotal in enhancing cardiovascular health and overall longevity.
