The tension between authenticity and attachment arises from our early disconnection from ourselves and the struggle to belong while being true to ourselves. Nature has endowed us with gut feelings and emotions, both of which are crucial. This often leads to the message that we can either be ourselves or be accepted, but not both. Prior to awakening, many people may have felt the lack of authenticity without understanding why they were not being authentic. The key is to notice when we are not being authentic, when we are not expressing a true yes or a true no, and to observe the impact on ourselves. By asking ourselves what belief is holding us back from being authentic, we empower our authentic self and strengthen the connection with it, teaching the broken heart to heal and the wholeness to overcome disconnection.
