NOTE

How Well Do You Think You Learned the Information?

In a fascinating study, researchers Jeffrey Carpik and Genel Blunt explored different studying techniques and their impact on learning. They divided students into four groups: one reviewed material once, another reviewed it multiple times, a third used concept mapping, and the final group engaged in free recall. Surprisingly, the students who believed they learned the best through repeated review actually performed the worst in tests. On the other hand, those who used free recall excelled. This challenges the misconceptions we have about our own learning and suggests that our judgment of learning is often inaccurate.
