The idea of non-overlapping magisteria between religion and science, proposed by some, is flawed as it leaves individuals without a foundation for moral values when they lose their religious beliefs. This leads to a situation where even professors find it challenging to assert that something like slavery is wrong, as they cannot claim it from a universal standpoint, which is not the realm of science.
