NOTE

Optical PPG Sensors and Motion Artifacts

Optical PPG sensors are sensitive to motion artifacts which disrupt the signal by causing noise, making it difficult to accurately detect heart rate. Movement, higher heart rates, darker skin tones, and even tattoos can impact the sensor's performance. Placing the sensor on larger blood vessels like the forearm helps to minimize motion artifacts and provides a cleaner signal compared to locations with more movement like the wrist.
