Despite these metrics, the American right clings to a dystopian view to justify their support for Donald Trump, as they find it difficult to morally support him. This dystopian narrative is necessary for them to rationalize their stance, even though the fear-mongering of America's demise if Biden wins is unfounded. The need to uphold this fiction stems from the cognitive dissonance created by supporting a morally questionable figure like Trump.
