Dr. Gena Gorlin — How to Build a Builder (EP.236)

Infinite Loops

NOTE

Constructing requires more effort than deconstructing.

The Enlightenment period championed individual authority and critical inquiry but often resulted in fleeting achievements that challenge the durability of human progress. This phenomenon may reflect a fundamental flaw in human nature, where the habit of worrying about external troubles leads to mental distress. There is a tendency to easily root against ideas or situations, which requires less imaginative effort than fostering positive support for them. Many people mistake their prejudices for genuine thought, engaging in unproductive rumination that can be depressive or anxiously charged, often mistaken for constructive reflection. This rumination, including positive fantasy-based thinking, is ungrounded and distanced from action. Ultimately, the process of building something valuable is significantly more challenging than the act of deconstruction.
