#524: Strength & Fitness Levels for Reducing Chronic Disease Risk & Promoting Health Ageing – Jordan Feigenbaum, MD

Sigma Nutrition Radio

NOTE

Hand Grip Strength and Total Body Strength

Hand grip strength primarily tests the intrinsic muscles of the hands and is not a reliable indicator of overall strength in the body. Trained weightlifters may not show significantly higher hand grip strength than untrained individuals. As a result, hand grip strength readings are limited in predicting total body strength or future health trajectories. However, hand grip strength is valuable for identifying current weakness, such as muscle loss, neurological conditions, or acute illnesses affecting muscular force production.
