Role of Ovaries and Adrenals in Women's Sex Hormones

Women primarily get sex hormones from their ovaries and adrenals. Ovaries produce estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone, with testosterone converting into estrogen for fertility. Adrenals release DHEA, which is converted into estrogen and testosterone in various tissues. Even after menopause or ovarian removal, adrenals continue to produce DHEA, which compensates for the decline in estrogen from ovaries, maintaining hormone levels in the body.
