NOTE

Gender and Ethnic Differences in Fat Storage and Diabetes Risk

Women have evolved to store more fat due to their role in bearing and nurturing children, which prevents nutrient depletion during pregnancy. Men tend to accumulate fat in their liver more readily than women leading to increased risk of diabetes and heart disease. South Asians are at a higher risk of diabetes due to genetic and physiological factors resulting in the tendency to store fat in harmful places like the liver even with minimal weight gain. Ethnicity plays a significant role in the risk of diabetes, with South Asians having a two to four times higher risk compared to other ethnic groups, influenced by factors such as muscle mass and height.
