Role of Lipoproteins in Carrying Cholesterol and Triglycerides

HDL particles primarily carry cholesterol and should have minimal triglycerides. High triglyceride levels in the body can lead to a decrease in HDL cholesterol, as triglycerides are transferred from other particles into HDL particles, causing them to lose cholesterol. Despite having significantly more HDL particles than LDL particles, the average size of LDL particles allows them to carry much more cholesterol, resulting in LDL cholesterol levels usually exceeding HDL cholesterol levels.
