NOTE

Fetal Early Experience and Epigenetic Effects

Early experiences in both rats and humans can have long-lasting effects on anxiety levels and brain structure. In rats, exposure to elevated glucocorticoid levels in the womb can result in an enlarged amygdala and heightened threat perception. These traits can be passed down through generations, even without altering the germline genome. This non-genetic transmission of traits has implications for understanding anxiety disorders and the potential for epigenetic effects.
